Bruges is located in the northern part of Belgium called Flanders. It's 50 kilometers from Ghent, 98 kilometers from Brussels and 15 kilometers from Blankenberge, which is one of the closest beaches to Bruges.

Bruges is a picturesque city, often referred to as the "Venice of the North." Imagine winding canals, cobblestone streets, and medieval architecture that will transport you to a storybook setting.

If you want to fly to Bruges you'll have to fly to Brussels Airport or Ostend-Bruges International Airport. From Brussels Airport you can take a train that will bring you directly to Bruges in only 1 hour 30 minutes. You can take a bus to Ostend if you land at the Ostend-Bruges International Airport and then take a train from Ostend to Bruges.

2) Groeningemuseum

Art lovers will be inspired by all the Groeninge Museum, which houses a wide collection of Flemish as well as European pieces of art.

It is renowned as one of the most beautiful art collections in the world. It houses art works from Renaissance and Neo-Classical styles, to expressionism and much more, and spanning more than 6 centuries.

10 minutes walk aoutside the city centre you can find real serenity in this UNESCO World Heritage site. The Beguines were a group of religious women who dedicated their lives to their religion at the Beguinage “Ten Wijngaerde”.

The last Beguine died in 2013, the religious movement ceased to exist.

The grounds of the Beguinage Ten Wijnagaerde are open today in which you can enjoy the beautiful open green spaces, gardens, the 17th-century church, and the Beguine house, with a small museum sharing what exactly life was like for this group of women.

Admission starts at 2 euros to visit the small museum. You have to buy your ticket in person at the museum.

10) Explore the inside of Stadhuis (City Hall):

Bruges City Hall (Stadhuis) is a beautiful historic building that’s worth exploring when you’re in Bruges. It dates back to 1376 and is one of the oldest city halls in this area of the world.

Inside the beautiful building, you will see just how magnificent the building is - there is a spectacular Gothic Hall that’s decorated with murals from the early 20th century, that showcase a brief history of Bruges.

Flanders Battlefields are an hour away from the historic centre of Bruges but I’d really recommend visiting if you have time.

It is a somber trip where many memorials are dedicated to the fallen soliders between 1914 - 1918.

You can visit monuments like the Menin Gate and the Last Post and museums like the WWl Museum, Passchendaele Museum and the In Flanders Fields Museum and cemeteries like the Commonwealth Military Cemetary.

19) St. Salvator's Cathedral (Sint-Salvatorskathedraal):

This cathedral is open daily expect for January 1st and is worth checking out whilst in Bruges. It is located in the heart of Old Town and is the city’s oldest church.

Outside you can admire the Neo-Romanesque and Gothic architecture of the church and the beautiful side gardens. When you head inside you’ll be amazed by the tall, arched stained glass windows and the white arched details. There are many treasures inside such as a unique organ to historic tombs and a rich collection of Flemish paintings.

The church often holds mass and people pray inside, so be respectful of that when visiting.
