WHERE TO STAY IN VIETNAM
Hanoi
Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and is known for its old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences. At its heart is the chaotic Old Quarter, where the narrow streets are roughly arranged by trade. There are many little temples, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse, plus Đồng Xuân Market, selling household goods and street food.
Danang
Da Nang is a coastal city in central Vietnam known for its sandy beaches and history as a French colonial port. It's a popular base for visiting the inland Bà Nà hills to the west of the city. Here the hillside Hải Vân Pass has views of Da Nang Bay and the Marble Mountains.
Hoi Chi Minh
Ho Chi Minh City, commonly known as Saigon, is the most populous city in Vietnam, with a population of around 9.3 million in 2023. It is siituated in the Southeast region of Vietnam and the city surrounds the Saigon River.
Hoi An
Hội An is a city on Vietnam’s central coast known for its well-preserved Ancient Town and canals. There is a range of architecture from a mix of eras and styles from wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colorful French colonial buildings, ornate Vietnamese tube houses and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge with its pagoda.
EATING IN VIETNAM
Many dishes in Vietnam consist mainly of rice and vegetables as well as fish, seafood, chicken or beef.
Rice products as well as soy sauce, fish sauce or shrimp sauce are the most common ingredients in Vietnamese dishes.
Here are my top choices of food to try when in Vietnam.
Pho
A wonderful and delicious broth dish that is made with clear broth, spring onions and sprouts as well as sliced chicken or beef slices. You can also get vegetarian Pho with tofu.
Xoi
Xoi is sweet sticky rice cakes made with coconut milk and mung beans, often with added food colouring
Banh Bao
This Vietnamese pastry dumpling is absolutely delicous, usually savoury filling such as pork or chicken meat
Nem
This is grilled pork meat skewers which have been marinated in fish sauce. They are often served with spicy chilli sauce
