This post is about travelling as a single women and why you should take your first solo trip
Millions of people all over the world strive to have at least one holiday every year. Lots of people really look forward to their annual holiday. It’s important for them to remove themselves from the hectic nature of life at home and in the workplace and spend some time relaxing or exploring.
Whether you love a relaxing beach holiday in Spain or exploring a city like Vienna tour operators provide a considerable range of single holiday packages to cater to those travelling alone. You can organise it all independantly if you want but that option is there if you don’t feel you have the knowledge or confidence to do it yourself.
Whatever you’re situation as a women over 40 I encourage you to travel alone, sometimes. Now this can mean different things to different people. For some it may be a night away somewhere, for others it could be a 4 month backpacking trip around South America.
Personally, I’m currently 41, single with an 18 year old son and we’ve had many travel adventures together but as he’s got older I’ve started to do more solo travel. Maybe you’re married, maybe you’re single, maybe you have kids, maybe you don’t. Whatever your current life situation is going to determine how long you travel solo for and how often you can do it.
Your finances also obviously have a huge impact on what you can do and where you can go. I encourage everyone to create a travel fund and learn how to really save for travel and make it a priority in your life.
You can still take group holidays with family which will create many wonderful and happy memories for everyone, but it doesn’t mean you can’t consider the alternative of travelling alone and meeting new people on the journey which can open so many possibilities..
Solo holidays continue to grow in popularity as a perfect avenue for both men and women to enjoy liberating, free-spirited adventures. And more and more older women in their 40s and beyond are choosing to travel alone.

TIPS FOR SOLO TRAVEL AFTER 40
🗺
So, you have booked yourself onto your first singles holiday. I imagine you’re probably feeling a mixture of excitement and a touch of nerves. It’s natural to have this feeling, especially if you haven’t done anything like this before.
To ensure that you have a fantastic time, here are some tips for you;
Take a phone with you so you can keep in contact with people at home, that way they won’t worry and neither will you. Also, you will be able to capture every moment of your journey.
Relax and speak to others: Remember that everyone on holiday or on their travels is in the same position as you. You may feel nervous or apprehensive about opening up and talking to new people but on the whole you will find people friendly and will possibly make some new lifelong friends.
Get involved: If there are trips out or activities you are interested in, participate. After all, you have left home to gather memories. Doing group activities or tours is also a great way to meet other solo travellers.
Stay safe: Don’t go to new areas alone and make sure that you keep to the recommended tourist areas. You can’t be too careful when it comes to your personal safety and it’s always best to be overly cautious.
Take a good book: This might sound a bit anti-social, but you might need some entertainment while sunbathing. You could get yourself a Kindle and load it up with all the books you don’t have time to read in the chaos of everyday life at home.
