FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF SORRENTO
Sorrento is one of Italy’s most famous resort towns. It has simply stunning views, steep cliffs, cobblestone streets. Everything you want from an Italian holiday. It’s the perfect base for exploring other popular tourist places such as Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi Coast.
We spent 8 days in Sorrento and fell in love with the place. Let’s take a look at why Sorrento is a great place to visit.
LOCATION
Sorrento is in South West Italy, facing the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Penisula. It is the perfect base for exploring other popular travel destinations in that region of Italy. It is close to many world famous places such as the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, Ischia and Naples.
It can be resonably difficult to get to these other places from Rome or Florence which is where many of the international tourists arrive in to Italy. Sorrento is simple and easy to get to with excellent connections to Rome and Florence making it the perfect base for your Italian adventures.
COST
When I was researching our trip to the South West of Italy I hadn’t yet settled on where we were going to stay. I looked at various locations around the area including Positano and Amalfi and I was surprised by how much more I could get for my money in Sorrento.
We were there in August, which is the peak of the Italian summer season, and we booked quite late (which usually means you don’t get as good deals) and the average hotel in Sorrento was around £1800 for 7 nights for 3 people and in places like Positano and Amalfi the average was around £2600.
